Meet Helen

With over 25 years experience in equestrianism, 15 years a horse owner & regular competitor, over 20 years as a horse care provider & dog owner, and a number of positions in the equine & canine industry, Helen has a wide range of experience across most equestrian disciplines & a compassionate, heart-felt commitment to animal care & wellbeing.

Equestrianism

Currently Helen is a contracted groom and stable hand with Ananada Kennard, looking after her team of 4 professional show jumpers and family ponies, carrying out all yard & stable duties, and getting horses ready to ride. Prior the this, Helen volunteered at Silky Oaks Stables with Lousie Te Oka, for the Saddle Club sessions in dressage/flatwork, sporting and jumping, to further her coach training and was receiving coaching for her own riding. Previously Helen was working for Byron Equestrian as an instructor & stablehand, providing care to 22 horses, instructing beginners & intermediate children & teens in flatwork & jumping, as well as teaching horsemanship & horse care at Saddle Club.

Furthermore, Helen has taught 1-1 private lessons at Tasirikki Ranch, teaching horse care skills & riding, and has been a facilitator of equine assisted learning workshops & natural horsemanship at The Herd - Byron Bay (now The Herd - Fernvale). Helen spent 4 months working at Tatoka Performance Horses with off-the-track thoroughbreds where she was sole charge of 13 horses & assisted with their retraining.

Back in Liverpool UK, Helen worked for Aintree International Equestrian Centre as a pony leader for 'Pony Days' teaching inner-city children about horses and giving them an introduction to riding. During competition days, Helen managed the collecting ring for dressage, wrote for judges from Prelim up to Medium, ensured the judges needs were met and carried out office duties. Working on a small private home dressage yard, Helen provided 5* care for the owner's 4 horses.

Other Professional Roles

Rest assured your home & stables will be well looked after during her stay. Helen has been personal housekeeper to local owners of Brook Farm & Brookies Distillery (makers of our favourite local Brookies Gin), taking care of their home & their rescue dog Bruno.  Helen was also a house keeper and manager at The Palms Guesthouse, a small guesthouse in Byron, which has ensured Helen has a keen eye for detail, and for keeping a clean & tidy home. Other professional roles include cleaning 5* accommodation at The Butter Factory apartments in Byron, The Byron Bay Brewery and various other holiday apartments around Byron's town.

Meet El G Jamil

‘El G Jamil’, better know as ‘Jay’ or ‘Jamie’ (also ‘Trouble’ & ‘Grey Devil’ to those who know him well!) is a mischievous purebred Egyptian Arab gelding, bought as a 4 year old by Helen in 2005.

Jay is highly intelligent, a cheeky yet sensitive character, incredibly versatile & can turn his hoof to pretty much anything! Helen has trained him to elementary level dressage with some medium movements, jumps 1.15m & excels at Cross Country. He’s won 1st rosettes across many different classes, from Working Hunter, Sports Horse & jumping to Ridden Arab, and has been an amazing companion and friend.

There’s not much Jay and Helen haven’t done together, they have taught each other an immense amount. Jamie absolutely loves his work, has continued to teach others dressage & boost confidence, and is now enjoying semi-retirement in the UK. Jamie is Helen's 'Heart Horse' and is an all-round Super Star!
